Wake up in the night

Why We Wake Up in the Middle of the Night?

Ever wonder, “why do I wake up in the middle night”? You think you are about to get a good sleep, maybe even go to bed early, sleep for a while, then bing,  you find yourself laying in bed eyes wide open. Sometimes it happens at 1am, 2am, 3am and so forth. You may not be aware of this but the time you wake up can be a sign as to what your body is trying to tell you. In Chinese Medicine, they use the “The Meridian Flow Wheel” to determine the issue. Find out what could be the issue Why We Wake Up in the Middle of the Night?

Below is an illustration out of Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine Book showing the times your organs are working the hardest at and precisely at what time of the day/night.

wWhy We Wake Up in the Middle of the Night? For example, I had a cold for two weeks and kept on waking up at 3am. I couldn’t figure out why until I looked at my Energy Medicine Book, and looked at the chart. In the chart you see that the lungs are working extra hard between 3am-5am. This made perfect sense to me, my body was trying to tell me something! How amazing is that?

So what time do you wake up? Maybe your body is trying to tell you something. Look at the chart to see why we wake up in the middle of the night?

Awesome cool post on waking up in the middle of the night, I do have this problem for most of my life and it has affected my life dramatically at times.

My wake up time usually is between 3:00am to 5:00 am, the chart suggests it is from my lungs?

Now I know it is from my lungs do you have any suggestions on what to do next, I don’t feel like I am having breathing problems when I wake up but I do feel anxious?

Thanks for the comment! That totally makes sense because you are between the lung and liver time-frame.  So the reason why you are feeling anxious makes perfect sense. I would drink some licorice tea before bed, it helps detox those organs and calms you because these organs actually are connected to your mind. Once the feeling of anxiety is gone you can stop the tea and drink it on a as needed basis. Let me know how you work out!

Well, this is very interesting. All of a sudden I see why I am waking up in the night. It all makes sense to me. I have never come across a chart like this before. As we age, sleep seems to be more spasmodic and something we have less of during the night, hence the nodding off the minute you hit the armchair in the middle of the day.

Thanks again for the article 🙂

For sure! Exactly your body knows best. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  3. I love it!! This is a great post about a problem I’ve had for many years. I just started making the most of it and began keeping a dream journal, as I have very lucid dreams and good recall.

I wasn’t aware of this chart though, and I love TCM!!

I’m on a kick now where I just sleep when tired, eat when hungry, and smile more than ever. But, I know many have schedules to keep so it’s not too “realistic” in today’s world.

I so enjoyed visiting your site, and your philosophy resonates with me 100%.

Thanks for the great information!! Cheers!

This was really interesting, I had no idea that different organs where working extra hard at specific hours during night. I selldom wake up during night, I guess that must be good for several reasons, but according to Chinese Medicine it must be that my body are fine and working great. Thanks for posting:-)

Neat little chart. Very interesting. I guess if you don’t wake up during the night it means the organs are not overly in bad shape.

If you are a more or less healthy person, waking up during the night I noticed happens if on that day you: ate too much, barely moved or didn’t have any fresh air.

To all those who have trouble falling asleep, try this: exercise for 2 hours on fresh air. The chances are you will fall asleep in seconds on that day. Just not before going to sleep.

Thanks for the comment! Good point, I remember being a kid out in the farm playing outside all day made me exhausted. I slept like a baby after that, so exercise in fresh air is essential in getting a good nights sleep.  🙂
